WORKFLOW & INSPIRATION

Choosing your first software synthesizer

Start with the sounds you want to make, then look at the workflow.

Listen before you collect

Choose a musical task: a bass line, an evolving pad or a simple lead. Try an official demo using your own MIDI part. Learn the oscillator, filter and envelope before adding effects.

Make compatibility a habit

Check your operating system, processor architecture, plugin format and host version against the publisher’s requirements. A free product can still need an account or a separate installer.

Keep a small shortlist

Save a few candidates and compare their official documentation. Avoid making a purchase decision from presets alone.
